Meet The Jones Girls

February 7, 2016

Meet the Jones Girls. A hand made Kiwi leather goods label which is young but incredibly cool. With a high regard for quality these sisters design for the modern girl who wants the best of both worlds with The Jones Girls take on these classic bags. Check out the Poppy Bucket bag and the Georgie Petite in Forest Green, love.
I was lucky enough to chat to Ruby Jones about the brand and what inspires them.

1. How did The Jones Girls come about?

My sister and I have always wanted to do something together, so when I decided to move home from Australia it was the perfect opportunity to make our dream a reality. We knew we would never be satisfied if we didn’t try, being creative is what makes us us.

We have always been interested in fashion and design, I studied at Whitecliffe majoring in fashion design and my sister Claire has a diploma in Interior Design. We both have our own creative interests which help to make the jones girls what it is. We wanted to create something we love. The memories of sitting in our mums wardrobe trying on her designer bags, we instantly knew what we wanted to create.
Our name came from our Grandma, as little girls she would call us “the jones girls” to differentiate us because we come from such a big family of women.
2. What inspires you?
Vintage leather was a catalyst for our collection, a definite inspiration. Exploring vintage shops in small town New Zealand is a huge inspiration for us, it is like a treasure hunt. We love to take the old designs and create something new keeping the functionality and timeless aesthetics of the past.
“What was old is new again” applies to our method of design and is a constant inspiration. We think women are turning to vintage bags for quality and timeless design, this is why we created our collection; minimalist with longevity. We will always admire the classics and bring that inspiration into The Jones Girls.
3. Words to live by?
We don’t necessarily live by any particular words. We believe in family, truth, loyalty, and trust.
I am reading “Daring and Disruptive – unleashing the entrepreneur” by Lisa Messenger and there are three quotes in her book that really resonate with me.
“have an unwavering belief in yourself and the rest will follow”
“create your own reality”
“surround yourself with those who build you up, dream big”
4. Dream destination?
We are obsessed with fabric, actually our whole family is. We have inherited this love of collecting beautiful fabrics from around the world from our mother, whenever Claire and I travel we always pick something up on the way. We dream of travelling to Istanbul to visit the 500 year old Labyrinth markets filled with fabric and leather goods.
5. Five things we can’t live without?
Poppy Bucket bag
Apple mac laptop
Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream
